Dear All,

I was thinking about the pros and cons of maintaining my mercedes service history and was trying to work out the build date of my car, re if it was galvanized.

Some of the members on other forums have suggested that the build date is the same as the delivery date? is this right??

My reasoning being that if my car is galvanized I won't worry about maintaining the mobiolife 30 year warranty at the cost of mercedes srvicing year on year.

thanks for any thoughts.

I think if you run your VIN number through the Russian website which Malcolm mentions to define the original spec of your car, it will give you the build date.

It's a good question, as my W220 was built in March 2004, but not registered until December. The 9 months difference would be important if it straddled the introduction of galvanizing.

The best that one can do is to get when it left the factory.

Some cars were galvanized before the 04-03 date, but all after that date

Enter the 17 figure VIN

I discussed this matter briefly with my dealer and he was able to easily look at their data-base and found out the exact spec and build date of my car. He pointed out that I had different wheels than the car was ordered with. More importantly with the spec, mine is an 05 car built in 04 which confused me but he said it was built to 05 spec on an early production line but got delivered early.

You win on both counts then - galvanized + nano.

I had a W211 (E 320 CDI) delivered Oct 2003 which I am sure had nano paint, but it was not announced to the market until some time after that, but you are well clear on dates. ;)

thanks,

My delivery date according to the russian website is september 2003, so I think I am probably ok for galvinization. Which probably means I will avoid the stealerships for my next service. especially as my local dealership seems not to know the difference between engine oil and atf!!!:p

Another handy way to find a build date is to take off some trim panels inside the car as they have date codes on them
