Delivery date on the datacard is the date the car was released or "delivered" from the production line.

Confirmation can be obtained by calling MB

This cannot be changed, the car left the production line on XXXX date. Some dealers keep cars back for showroom use.

There are different rules in different countries, 5 months is rather a long time for the car to be held in stock.

Some people buy a car in December and register it in Jan to get the new years registration mark where applicable.

This is very hard for us, as we do not know the laws for your country, the gap in the difference is rather large

So, ordered in 2012, built in Aug 2012, held in Germany until Malaysian shipment complete, shipped to Malaysia, received, prep'd, delivered to dealer and registered.

Might not be so unusual? What experiences from others in your country?

That would be a very good idea as they have all the information on this.

According to Mr Google CKD means that the cer has been assembled locally.

In that case, what defines the "production date" ?

Dreaming of a CL55k - one day maybe....
Why do you say that's a long time.

When I worked for Peugeot, we sold a 205 ROLAND GARROS - we'd had it in stock for 3 years.......!!

So date of registration, and start of warranty was three years after the build date.

The customer never asked the build date, and we never told him!

When I ordered a "new" 221, the "delivery date" on the datacard corresponded with the day it left the Sindelfigen factory.

Ten days later it arrived at the UK dealers.

I think when most people order a "new" car, what they want is one that has just been built, or will be built to order, not one that has been laying around somewhere for a year or more. Dealers may have different ideas though. ;)

Quite obviously, a two-year difference can mean quite a loss in re-sale value.

The final inspection date from a VIN decode is the date it rolled off the line. It's usual for there to be a delay to date of registration.

I have no idea what Malaysian registration rules are.

When I worked at a Vauxhall dealer we had a Senator in stock for nearly 2 years before it was registered.

So there's "new" and then there's "nearly new"
