Hi all,

On the V6 320 auto is it correct that all 6 injectors need to be taken off and tested to determine faults?

It currently drives perfectly but a bit smokey on cold starts and everything else has been ruled out so want to address it asap.

Cost to send off 6 to be tested is almost the same as 6 new ones

Cheers

STAR and possibly some other diagnostic equipment can check injected quantities and if they are in tolerance

155k, white/blue but has had alot of work done on it recently. Oil cooler kit changed, new turbo, gaskets changed, oils all changed, terraclean equivalent.

I don't think injectors have been changed ever. I did think about having them all changed due to mileage to prolong it's life anyway

May I ask the reason for the turbo change, was the bearing shot?

Smoking was the initial reason for check but yes inspection showed the bearing was on its way out. This is all according to the mechanic but he is an mb specialist with rave reviews

Empty garage, awaiting new toy :)
Diesel Bob has a very reasonably priced test service.

Injector testing:
Conventional style injectors (not common rail) £8:00ea
Common rail injector testing £22:00ea
PD/Unit injector testing (e.g. 1.9 TDI VW) £30:00ea

A no nonsense geezer as well :)

If the turbo bearing was on the way out, it is possible that the piston rings or valve seals are also on the way out, as it was the same engine oil that had been lubricating both surfaces. Could try a compression test on each cylinder.

Blue ish smoke issually indicates burning oil. Don't rule out the piston rings and valve seals just yet. Get a compression test done before throwing money at injectors.
