My w140 500se has vibration through the steering wheel from 20mph to 60ish. I also have vibration on braking.

I have had all wheels balanced, and tracking is fine. One front tyre is unevenly worn (on inside) but i'm gonna swop fronts to back to eliminate this as a cause.

My money is on warped brake disc causing the trouble, but would this cause the vibration when not braking???, and only at a certain speed??

help!

The shaking at 20 to 60 mph is wheel balance and nothing else, the firm doing it does not know what they are doing.

When braking and you can feel the knocking through the pedal or steering it disc

What wheels are fitted, are they standard mercedes rims or other.

its really weird, sometimes the vibration is almost non-existant, sometimes quite bad!no vibes through pedal, just steering wheel.

spoke to my local ats who balanced the wheels (took it to them because of this problem) and the guy swears blind he balanced them perfectly.

btw, original MB alloys.

If the track rod ends were worn and you hit a bump, then this could make any imbalance more pronounced, and shake more than normal, but it still take a wheel out of balnce to start it off in the first place

Have you had the rest of the steering/suspension looked over?It could be a worn ball joint.
