I'm having problems with my W202 1995 C180... the engine is turning over but will not start, an auto-electrician checked it out and came up with fault code 064, 'immobiliser not communicating with ECU' He suggests having the ECU re coded so that the immobiliser will communicate with the ECU. I've read the advice about re-setting the ECU will this work in this instance, ie, disconnecting the battery and touching the +/- cables for a couple of seconds? The car was parked outside in the recent heavy rain. Your help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi all! Problem is now solved... I checked the fuses and found that when the so called 'Auto Electrician' changed the 15A fuse he slotted it back into the slot (22) for the rear blind (not fitted to my car) instead of into the 23 slot for immobilisor etc..... I inserted the fuse into the correct slot and it started first time. Has anyone got any advice on how to get my money back?

Put the fuse back in the wrong place, take a few photos, put it in the right place, take a few photos. Take the best 2 photos and the fuse box "index" and their invoice back to the auto electricians, demand to see the manager and demand your money back!
But be prepared for a few questions - like "if it was us that did it, how come you managed to get the car home from the auto electricians the first time?"

I used a 'mobile auto-electrician', he came to me, he's reluctantly agreed to refund his fee, amazingly I managed to keep a cool head and didn't call him any 'naughty names' it didn't stop me thinking them though!
