Hi all, having recently purchased a replacement car (E220 CDI), at what mileage would it be best to start putting fuel additives into the car?
I had to replace three injectors on my otherwise excellent W203 220 cdi (not cheap:( ). I intend to keep this car for 5-6 years and would like to mitigate early injector replacement if possible. ;) Also any make of additive in particular?
Thanks
Paul.

do a search on adding 2 stroke to diesels, very interesting & apparently works to. I added some at the weekend and the car is definately quieter from cold.

Thanks Malcolm, would you advocate using immediately and if so how frequently?
Thanks
Paul.

Try reading your handbook first. Mercedes strongly urge you not to use any additives in my handbook.

Read what is says on the tin for how often, this has received very good trade press reviews and discussed at length on forums, unlike engine additives, it works as a cleaner as well

This is exactly what I believed as my handbook says the same. Also my Subaru handbook said the same along with my Honda one.

Given that MB do not know what additives you may use it's sensible advice from their perspective. After all, if someone markets a "fine grit additive" and you use it, they don't want to be responsible so its a one size fits all deterrent.

However, quality products like Millers are no different to what you get using super plus diesel.(maybe a bit better or stronger) so the advice can safely be ignored if you use a pucker additive IMHO.

I've been using millers on and off over the last year or so (E270cdi - 4 yrs old) but I can see no reason to avoid it earlier than that. After all, it's primarily a detergent and the earlier you use it, the less build up you'll get in the first place.
That said - all these results can be so anecdotal. I was surprised how quiet mine was this morning in the freezing cold and wondered whether it was the millers I had put in on Sunday - until I remembered I was going to put it in but the boot was full and I couldn't get to the bottle !!

I would love to see a picture of your fuel strainer JB, we have had pictures put up where they have been totally clogged up. As you use it often it would be good to see if it does work as it says it should.

There is another thread on this forum called, "adding 2 stroke to diesel".

How do you post a link to it from here?
Post number 10 is interesting.

Just open that thread, copy the address at the top, and paste it into your answer

I've tried the additives in Halfords & Tesco, didn't notice any difference at all with any of them.

I put some 2 stroke in at the weekend and swear the car is quieter when cold.

hi everyone, my friend coverted 50 trucks to run on vegioil, he had a oil/combustion pal at manchester uni. they told me that adding one litre of vegoil every couple of months would dissolve cabon deposits and change the fuel's valency , this was also reccomended prior to your mot test as improved combustion would occur, based on the vegioil releasing free radicals in the fuel. i have tried it but in all honesty i don't know if it has worked, i want to think it has based on their credability. i also checked what they told me with dr searl, a combustion expert where i used to work. he said it made sense. so it's a bit like having an alchoholic drink, a little does some good, too much rotts the pipes. 100% vegioil attacks rubbers and seals and eventually destroys the fuel pumps. the 2 storke oil idea is just lubrication, does'nt do any harm, but you get lubrication all the time from diesel fuel. herbiemercman.
