diesel particulate filter full

hi guys, i,m a mechanic and just scanned my new 05 c class cdi today with snap on solus scanner.no lights on but thought i,d check for fault codes as a matter of cause.only one stored,which was as above.cleared ok,but wondered if there is a process for putting it into the regeneration stage to clear the filter? its done 62k and full history,but an elderly gent owned it and has probly been driven very steady.

Just a thought, does it definitely have one?
They were not fitted as standard to the C Class, but as an option, which I don't think many chose.

has to be done via star, runs the engine at about 3500rpm for 20mins, exchaust can melt tarmac!!

Could you not drive the car and hold it in 3rd gear thereby generating high revs?

Would this clear the filter and not generate the same heat or is the heat necessary?
