One use for old batteries is as Elon Musk did in Australia. He used no longer viable car batteries (ability to hold charge no longer good enough for vehicles) and built a power station charged by solar which then converts to 230v for domestic use. It's big enough to to power an entire town.
I'd happily do likewise for a domestic solar installation.
