By following my car in another I noticed that my 2008 C220cdi emits a short burst (couple of seconds) of blue smoke when starting from rest each time. The car has only covered 13K miles. Is this normal? No smoke when accelerating or cruising. The car is not fitted with a DPF.
I just wondered as technology moves on whether this is still to be expected? With previous cars I did expect it and certainly got a load of smoke from my earlier Range Rovers and Discoverys!

Dont worry mate, lots of new cars still do this, some when accelerating, some on start up.. :)

Well that's reassuring at least.

I may be wrong but when the car is in 'S' Standard mode in lieu of 'C' mode there appears to be a slight reduction in smoke. Could this be that the car starts in 1st gear in 'S' and 2nd in 'C' thus meaning more foot pressure applied to throttle in 'C' mode and gentler in 'S' to achieve the same speed at start off? Or am I just imagining this!

blue smoke you say? does it need oil topping up between services?

My valve stem oil seals were replaced under warranty. If your oil level is going down too, get it back to Mercedes for repair.

mercedes have figures for unacceptable oil consumption.

hilariously they seem to think 1 litre in 1000 miles is fine - really!

At that rate, perhaps they should just go back to the old 2 stroke+oil mix (derv+oil in this case) direct in the tank eh :)

Oil level is fine. On the last service an 'A' (its first service) the MB dealer replaced the oil but only up to halfway up the dipstick! When I queried this they said it was the correct quantity and they did not like to overfill it. What is point of a dipstick with a full level marking if it is not meant to be the correct full level. I have subsequently topped it up to the 'correct' level as shown on the dipstick and in the last 5K miles the level has not dropped.

Have just re-checked the dipstick and in fact over the last 5K the oil level has dropped by a quarter from full to 3/4 on the dipstick which I estimate to be about 1/3 of a litre.
