Does anyone know any reason why some diesel system cleaner cannot be run through a small petrol engine to clean a carb ?

It might work if you have the engine running and hot

I thought it might be, it should keep running with it in if it is hot

I had a little read and it appears some are claimed to be suitable for both.

Diesel in itself is a good cleaner, during the Suez crisis I ran my car on the paraffin from street works lamps, had to use petrol to start, then switch over but the white clouds of smoke were horrific and the smell

I drove a TVO tractor when I was a lad. Started on petrol and pulled a lever to switch over. Lots of white smoke.

Given the prices of decent law mowers why would you risk it?

Stripped carb absolutely mint, cleaned tank filter also mint, adjusted cables improved it, changed plug no improvement, changed oil as I had some.
I will adjust the valve clearances to see if it will run a bit smoother.
Honda publish lots of useful papers for the engines.
It not bad too do when you get it off the ground.

Set valve clearances (if you ever wonder what happens to old coke tins Honda use them for engine covers and stick on with goo).
Sharpened blades as well.
Engine smoother but just not quite good enough for me I will carry on.

Did you run it without the blade in place? If so was it any smoother?

I didn't, but I did balance the blades when sharpening them.
