Hi Malcolm

I have wired everything in and it is working ok, the signal is a bit weak but I think it is the area.

"You chop the power lead off from the mains adapter and wire the plus lead to the live in on the TV tuner and the negative to ground."

The red light from the IR receiver stays on even though the car has been sitting for a few hours, I thought that when the Comand "went to sleep" it would cut the power, I would leave the car sitting for up to a week so I am worried that the battery would go flat if the digbox was left on standby.

Can you advise me please, thanks

Alan

If I have over looked the shut down bit as my Comand shuts right down, you may have to run the live to the digi box from a key 1 and 2 point on the car, the consumption is only milli amps , let me think about this and come back

Most transmitters will boost their power on the switch off

I took the power from the small 2 wire plug going into the tuner, maybe I should look for power coming out from the larger plug, or are they all sending signals, not 12v power.

Thanks

I am not in a position to check for a few days, as my Comand has my own mods, as my last post if the worst comes to the worst,if only means taking a thin live lead form the cigar lighter of fuse, I will post back

Thanks,

I have just checked the car today, the IR light was out, but as soon as I put my hand on the door handle (keyless go) it lit up green, maybe it takes more than a few hours for it to sleep.
I will check to see if it does it again.

The Comand is on the wake up circuit, these circuits do take up to half hour to go to sleep, this means that its fine as it is, as the other tuner is doing the same thing, as is the Comand and CD changer if fitted

Thanks for all your help.

Alan

Its a pleasure, some things do make you think.

I lay in bed last night thinking, " if its wired on the existing tuner" then there is no technology that could leave the existing live and not draw any current.

Re Digi boxes, they are getting hard to get hold of right now, I bought 12 last week and all are now sold, and I could not buy any this morning

It was lit all night last night.

Should I be taking the live coming out of the tuner, not going in, if so, is it safe to splice into any wire that is live when the tuner is on.

Other than running a wire to the cigar lighter so that it is key 1 and 2. let the car go to sleep and with a voltmeter check what pin goes from 12v to 0v when sleeping.

I do not have the wiring diagrams of the tuner its self, maybe it senses that the other tuner is there..

When joining into these things I never cut a wire, I just touch the tip of the soldering iron onto the plastic and melt it just enough to be able to solder the wire to it.

I did see an S-Class outside it when driving by, I only live 300 yards away from it.

Thanks for the diagram, I will print it off and check mine.

Battery was flat after 5 days, and red light was on, so it is drawing power all the time. I can't find anything in the boot that will go off when I switch off the car, will have to find something from the fuse box under the back seat if I can get to the back of the fusebox.

Alan,,take the live from the cigar lighter, you can run a thin lead along the sills and kick plates, either pass under the passenger seat or under carpet across to the center consul and wire to the cigar lighter , the wire will pass under the console. Or go behind the passenger kick panel and come in from behind the center console.

I can give you papers to remove the ash tray

Alan do you have a rear cigar lighter, you can go under the rear of the console, a much shorter route, these are the only key 1 things on the car

Malcolm.

I will take a feed off the cigar lighter on the front, the only ones I have in the back are in the doors. I did already feed the remote sensor through that route so I will do the same, I was just looking for an easer way than taking the ashtray and glove box out again & threading it round the kick panels again.(I have removed the ashtray before, so I don't need the instructions thanks )

I have not had a chance to check on the existing tuner as of yet, but I will have to soon.

Sorry about the extra work
