They'll bring one out, due to the low uptake of DAB analog radio will probably be with us for quite some time anyway. There is also the option of buying a portable DAB radio, buying an "iTrip" type device (FM radio transmitter) and getting DAB that way.

You have a digital TV tuner in your car. Whilst this isn't DAB its still a digital radio signal and will give you more choice of stations. Personally I prefer the roar of the V8 in yours and the sat nav lady

Digital signal are not so user friendly, the noise as it cuts in and out is horrible. A digital signal either works or it does not, when it does not, it splutters and goes.

With analogue the signal fades until the signal becomes weak and the pilot tone generator is knocked out, but you can still hear it for the best part.

Though I have found like others, all BBC stations are quite easy to get on DAB the others are not so easy

Hardly ever listen to radio anyway apart from listening to football.

Does the new facelifted 230 have the HD comand system, you could sell on your old comand, refit the new one with hard disk (4gb) and be a happy man. Thats a lot of Mp3s that are naturally purchased on iTunes or amazon

I listen to real, clyde 1, smooth or radio 2 in my car - single slot CD is PITA as you have carry your CD's, of course I could get an autochanger/COMAND (getting the MP3 connectivity fitted) but for the most time the radio is fine for my tastes.

The only radio station i listen to in the house is absolute radio as they will not play R+B, soul, rap etc etc and so cater for the silent majority.
They play bob marley now and again who nobody coudnt like so cant be accused of being racist by the usual liberal elite.

A recent govt statement said analogue will finish in 6 years time.

All current MB models offer DAB radio as an option.

Was an E300TD, now a Lexus LS400
IIRC a report said that it should finish. Not quite the same thing.

I think that the report has now shown that too many people in the UK would not be able to receive anything if FM was to go, along with all of the car systems that use it as part of the navigation. All of our cars that have TMC would loose that, and I still think it is good for 15 years

BBC website today says: -

When will analogue radio be switched off?
No date has been set for switching off analogue radio in the UK. The decision about the future of analogue radio will be made by the Government and Ofcom once a full review has been issued taking into consideration the best interests of listeners and the radio industry.

doesn't the sat nav come from space

I remember some lady from NASA or the USAAF or somewhere was on the radio a while back saying unless they get a shed-load of money to fix the GPS satellites, then sat nav will start going down.
Aren't the EU developing their (our)own system in competition. Will it work with the satnavs we already own, probably not. Time to dig the maps out again.

Yes I have heard that too,, the problem is that you cannot fix them.. my ladder will not reach 11,500 miles :(

They all have a 15 year life, when they run out of fuel, their position cannot be corrected, and they become inclined and the foot print changes. Replacement is the only answer
