DIN instead of a cigaret lighter

I jsut acqired a cClass 220 1996. As I am one of Mercedes fans who drove one 1955 220 ( not quite sure if it was, perhaps it was a 180/or 190). any way I also baught a tom tom navigation system and was sure that I have a cigaret lighter. to my surprise, this car does not have one, instead It have what is called in the manual a DIN. Been to two Merc dealers here in london, and no one seems to be able to help in getting an adaptor for this DIN, to get a cigaret lighter in order to fit the charger neeeded for the navigator and the receiver. been to many shops, and hardly any one have seen such a devise ( Mean DIN, which , incidentally I took off its place in order to make life easier for me when ask about a replacment/and oR an adaptor
any help. Thank you

DIN is a standards organisation and there are many connectors, which they could describe. Perhaps, a search on "connectors" on www.maplin.co.uk or similar, could yield a result on the plug that could plug into your socket. Then, you could make your own adapter using an inline "ciragette lighter" socket. I am surprised that the car doesn't have a cigarette lighter socket, perhaps there was a smokers pack option which wasn't fitted??

Thanks
Will call on a maplin store. their website does not show much
An option I have is to wire a new ligher in, which involve opening a hole ( which I do not like).
Yes I learned that this car is made for non smokers, however the nonsmokers need also to inflate tyres if need be, or inflate boats...etc. they also might need 12V source for other appliances. I found it very strange not to supply a car with a cigaret ligher.

The socket is a round one, inside it, I can see two brass looking "things".Nothing in the manual.
the manual: It only says that this PIN is fitted in Merc of non smokers.

is that not the power socket......shove something into it (not your fingers) and see if it powers it.

you have to order the lighter now....and you get an ash try too, instead of the power socket and a bigger tray without the stubber outer bit. or at least that was the case with mine, but i dont smoke, tyres excepted, so it dont matter to me.

Just to expand slightly - the 'something' to shove into it is simply the plug of your TomTom (or whatever), in exactly the same way as you'd shove it into the cigarette lighter socket.

I was thinking all along that this was simply a power socket, but it seemed a bit obvious.

Well, it is a power supply socket, rest assured that I will not shove my finger in it, as it is too small even for my lkittle finger!!!!!, and that is the problem. It is too small to shove anything in, surely not the cigarett ligher or whatever.
Will try again other Merc dealers around my area and see. Perhaps some one there might know how to solve this.

- Especially suitable for Mercedes with non-smoker package

Well, sometimes. It usually throws up far too much info so you can't see the wood for the trees.

BTW, that Hama page loads up very randomly - I first posted a list of plugs/sockets but it was different every time it loaded. Now the page comes up in German.
Maybe this works? Or you can select English from the menu on the left.
