On the CLK220CDi the red is the engine oil & black is the auto.

If its a 642 engine with the 7g box then theres not even a dip stick tube!

How do you get the fluid in then, short of turning the car upside down and filling through the drainplug:confused:

I have a fancy that's exactly how it is done (not upside down though). I think a gearbox version of colonic irrigation is required

I think that Cole posted to this effect before he left this forum.

well cole is still in the forum! to check and fill the the box level is done by filling and checking via the filler hole! its a work up and has to be done via star!!

Inside the sump is a tube about 2-3 inches long, you fill the sump using a pump into the drain hole, you put about 9 liters into it, put the sump plug back in and start the car,

You then put star on and watch the gearbox oil temp rise to 40-45, once there, you remove the drain plug and see how the fluid flows out, if its a smooth steady flow then that is fine, if it spits out the you add another liter and start again!!

Would you like me to send you the paper Malc:D

Sorry, I thought Cole had Resigned, or is he still viewing (if so, Hello Cole).

Any chance you could send me the paper?

Many thanks for the clarification.

They realised that not selling you the auto dipstick wasn't quite enough to stop DIY servicing on the 722.6XX gearboxes so, they introduced the above for the 7g gearboxes to foil us!
