Dipping Mirrors

Ok, I KNOW there are many, many threads on this subject, and I HAVE searched them - honest, but I'm still not having any luck.

Problem is, until I recently started playing with it, my nearside mirror dipped fine, but now it won't. It does move a wee bit ( the same every time ) so I suspect it needs reset.

As I said, I have tried every possible variation of the many instructions on here ( ignition on/off, engine on/off, green button pressed with/without seat program number, in/out of rev gear ), and also in the manual ( which is a bit confusing tbh ), can someone please, please, please post definitive instructions on how to re-program the mirror. The car is a 1998 W210 E300TD.

Should the joystick type button in the centre you use to move the mirror be depressed at any time, I know the mirror selector should be and that it won't work if not.

Many thanks in advance, my ears are beginning to hurt from SWMBO,
Stewart

Is it possible to stop these mirrors from dipping? Mine drives me mad. I look in it to see what is behind and all I see is the ground :( I'm more interested in metal poles than curbs.

Oh. You mean when it's in the paring position I should just adjust it to where I want? Does that work?

On my Range Rover you have to go into reverse and hold some button down for a few seconds until it disabled.

I never tried the obvious. I'll try it tomorrow.

Thanks.

I did this recently, and it wasn't exactly as per the book because the book was utterly useless.
IIRC:
Ignition on. Leave gear selector in "P".
Press Memory 1, 2 or 3 and release.
Set the mirror selector to "passenger side".
Adjust the mirror to the required dipped position.
Press the Green memory button, and release.
Within 3 seconds pull the mirror adjusting joystick backwards ie "Down" and hold for 2 seconds - NB the mirror should not move.
Job done.

FWIW, If you want the mirror to dip whilst reversing you must have the mirror selector in the "passenger adjust" position. If you don't want the mirror to dip, just press "driver adjust". As you've said, sometimes you don't want to se the kirb, but you do want to see the pillar you're about to ding.

"Or have the L/R switch set to R position."

Works on mine!
