I think taxing them off the road would be unpopular due to the cost of replacing them. It would leave them open to criticism about making private transport for the wealthy and create problems with work force mobility.
Who's the fools for following the law? This emission garbage junk they bolt onto cars to achieve pollution targets, sell them to us and every Government sits back laughing that they just lumbered us with yet another carbon tax in the guise of spare parts at ridiculous inflated prices. Diesel engines should have stopped production the day they attached the first bit of this sh**e onto a diesel engine. I personally have bought my last modern diesel vehicle and I'm in the process of turning anything I have around the house to Hybrid or petrol for less woes. Rant over

If I had known more about diesel MB post Euro 3, I doubt I would have bought one. So much in place to keep emissions to an agreed level is madness. Mine was a great choice at the time, needed a car for work that would be happy up and down the motorway. As it turns out, I've never used if for this. Am seriously thinking that when this has been resolved and serviced, may sell on.
Maybe I'm lucky? This is the first emissions control problem that I've had so far. I'd like to find out if driving style can lead to more of this type, I know the DPF's hate short journeys, but my car has only 74k on the clock.
The more you use it the better it is - short journeys and sitting around doesn't do modern emissions systems any good at all

To be fair, up until last autumn when the gearbox played up, I've had trouble free motoring. Driving to Belgium isn't that far, but, no one wants to breakdown out of the UK!
