Not easy at all, we know that the remote amp could fail on these early cars, but the key would still turn in the ignition. Doe the LED in the end of the key flash when pressed. To sync this key, press the large button twice and place in ignition switch within 15 seconds.

Is the key sending a beam that can be seen in a camera

1989 230E 2.3L 8 valve. 39,000 miles from new!
Newbie here.

My 1989 W124 230e has a start up problem. I have ignition lights but it doesn't turn over. Only have 1 key which isn't the original also never had a key fob so i have no idea if it came with 1 as new.
I was recently told it has an immobiliser which may be causing problems.

Any Information on disabling this would be much appreciated.

Hello first time I have posted on here I have looked at all the posts but none have the same fault as mine well I don’t think they have. The Red and green light on the mirror do what they should I think they go off when I push the button on the key. They car starts then stops I can hear the fuel pump click in. Tomorrow I am going to re solder the OVP relay and disconnect the immobilizer (it has the silver sticker in the window) and the wiring loom looks good from what I can see is there anything else I should be looking at ?

This does sound different if the engine starts and stops, an engine fault maybe

Well I disconnected the immobilizer and re soldered the OVP relay and checked the loom and the car will not start I took the cover of the Fuel pump relay and it did pull in on cranking I then held the contacts on the solenoid and it started to run so I turned it off and it started fine so I thought I had fixed it then it started to run on 2 cylinders so I turned it off and started it again and I was fine left it ticking over and it cut out and back to where I was before I did anything I feel it could be fuel pressure but when the engine cuts out I can hear the fuel pump drop out and few seconds after it engine stops running if it was a crank sensor I feel it would not start at all. I did run it with the MAF unplugged and it made no difference Thanks for any help you guys might have sorry if I am going off topic and should be in another thread

Sounding like the crank shaft sensor

Thanks for your reply if it had faulty Crank sensor do you think it would fire and run for a few seconds? I will fit on anyway and let you know

Did u manage to disable the immobiliser by an
I had cause many years ago to call upon Mobilo to get my car (W202 C180) going after the immobiliser refused to let go of my car. The car unlocked and locked fine but inserting the key and turning did nothing.

When the chap from mobilo came out he quickly disabled the immobiliser which shocked me when I saw how simple it was. It takes about 5 minutes thats all.

I'll PM you the solution.

Did you mange to disable to immobiliser ive gor the same problem and aslo cant start the car

i have a w202 c200 lost my key transponder thingy and its causing a heafty penny to get another is there anywhere to bypass the system to be able to start the vehicle... really need help anyone

im from trinidad and tobago bought the vehicle and after 2 months lost the keys its costing me alot of money to get the transponder key thing and them these guys is charging alot to program it looking for a simple fix

Changing the engine won't fix it.
I would suggest you get a local auto electrician to look at it.

went to the dealer and its costing over 12 thousand tt to get a transponder key and to reprogram

The w202 often had aftermarket immobilisers fitted. Factory immobilisers tend to be integrated to the key.
You suggest you have a separate immobiliser fob which would suggest it wasn't factory fitted.

an auto electrician tried and he got it to tumble but it wont start and he told me its ths immobiliser thats giving trouble..thus the story of the dealer and the cost to fix but when i was reading through the forums to see if it could have been anything else that was causing the issue found that someone knew a bypass and i wanted to know to be able to fix my vehicle
