Hi All , I'm new to this site and looking for help. I've had a 2002 W209 CLK240 V6 for a few months now and I love it , It's a fantastic old car.

There is one niggling problem, when I bought the car the headlight adjustment on the dash didn't work . After doing some research on here I realised that they are vacuum controlled, when I took off the engine cover I can see a small diameter grey pipe which I assume has come loose and should go into a pipe somewhere on the inlet manifold.
HOWEVER After over two hours of looking I simply cannot find where it connects so I've finally conceded defeat, it's only short so it must connect somewhere around the air intake?
Can anyone tell me the exact location please?

I've attached a photo of the pipe .

Under the thick silver pipe I can see a rubber vacuum connection on the manifold but can't see anything plugged into it?

Anyone got a workshop diagram that may shine some light on its location?

The pipe looks out of place to me? It seems to be just waving around free of clips etc., Not usual for an MB. I wonder whether it has been placed at the back out of the way. Can you trace it back to see where it goes? Have you checked the back of the headlamp adjuster knob to make sure both pipes are connected?

Yes the grey pipe was just hanging free at the back I positioned it up there just to photograph it. I know it must go into a rubber pipe somewhere and it's not that long so it must be in that vicinity somewhere. I guess I really need a manual showing the exact location of the rubber pipe it goes into

Right then , I found this thread going back to 2015 but the critical pictures of the exact location have been removed.

Is Ben still a member , Ben do you still have the photos?

I'm now convinced that the vacuum pipe has been stuffed down in the engine somewhere but access is going to be difficult, I almost need to kneel in the engine bay lol

Yes I studied those but I cannot see any pipe like that in that position on my car. I guess I'll have to start taking bits off like the air intake etc so I can see further down in the engine .

It would be great if someone had an exploded diagram so I could see where it comes from before I start removing bits?

Well I finally found the pipe, it was jammed underneath the air fuel intake. I ended up having to remove the whole unit and the pipe was jammed underneath, the only way this could have happened is if the intake had been removed before and put back with the pipe underneath.

Anyway connected the grey pipe to the rubber one and hey presto lights adjustable once more.

Thanks for everyone's help.

Was that the connection I'd circled in orange?

Yes it was that one but it looked like it was going under the air flow intake to the opposite side to a valve with other similar Size pipes . I pulled it really hard and the other pipes moved. Such Fun
