I will be sure to re-visit this thread when I do mine. I'm a bit worried about using the car to remove pistons given the SL has SBC.

The "backstreet mechanic" video is very good, and he is Irish too

She did recently turn down the pressure washer strip down in the middle of the lounge, so it’s not all plain sailing . Might have helped that they were her cars brake calipers .
When I do my cars brake calipers in the spring I’ll see if she is as forthcoming .

I find if I leave the last estimate for building a garage/workshop lying about it helps greatly on creating space for repairs!

Careful stripping down a pressure washer, they have quite a lot of messy oil inside (don’t ask me how I know...)

Does anyone know if putting a piece of plastic sheet under the brake fluid reservoir cap and tightening it down would allow me to remove a brake caliper without clamping the brake hose ?
I read it somewhere a while ago and also read that clamping brake hose can damage them (especially older ones ) .
My wondering if it’s a bit like doing some work on a house plumbing system where the fluid is held up by a vacuum .

That's what I've done in the past, though IIRC it wasn't completely successful ie fluid seeped through but very much slower than without the plastic. So it depends on how long you're planning on the caliper being removed

Ideally you use a brake pipe end . With an inch of brake pipe with the end either folded over or brazed.Either male or female and screw it on the flexi hose once its removed from the caliper.

Agree fold over brake pipe tap flat with hammer if you have no means of
braising. Or bit of correct size hose dipped in hot water pushed onto end of flexi pipe and clamp it.
