Finally caught up with all my chores and the Viano was the last vehicle to be detailed. It's now on the ramp with the oil draining overnight and fresh oil and filters will be fitted tomorrow.

that colour seems to suit the shape of the viano/vito well. and different to the more normal (around here at least) white/silver normally seen on them

Lots of silver and black round this way.

The official name of this colour is Lugano Grey, it's an unusual colour and can look blue at times and grey at other times. Oddly enough although Mercedes call it grey the V5 shows blue

Oh...I should never have bought a black car, it's going to mess with my head...Been doing a bit more polishing as I still wasn't happy with the finish, it's almost there now...almost

I have a 3M Sun Gun which is excellent for showing up swirls and marks on the paintwork, it's an expensive bit of kit but nothing else on the market compares and it's as close to natural sunlight you can get. Only problem is the battery doesn't last long and buying replacements are £100+ so for all the time I use it the cost was too much to justify the price. My Sun Gun is 6 or 7 years old and the battery is almost dead so I decided today to try hooking it up to a 12V transformer, but it didn't work so plan B was hook it up to a spare car battery with the C-Tek connected and for the first time in a few years the darned thing worked, in fact it works better than with the original battery and when shone on the paintwork showed lots of swirls so back to the drawing board and out with the polishes again

Some more reflection shots in no particular order

Finish is looking good.

As for the Sun Gun. You might be surprised, if you haven't seen this before, at how much you can make one for using the same bulb as 3M do. I was!

Yes I've seen that Carl, not quite a Sun Gun as the genuine 3M piece of kit is voltage sensitive to ensure the bulb is at the correct lumens to replicate the sun. Apparently a 1 volt drop is enough to throw everything out of kilter and for paint sprayers this could mean a serious miss-match of colour

Agree for colour matching that it is imperative the light colour is spot on. For finding swirls however, not in the slightest.

Back to vehicles. Do you wet sand at all? Or is it just painting and polishing you do?

It's bad when you look at how expensive some cars are and the standard of paint is shocking even from the factory!

Only just got rid of the Range Rover after 5 years of polishing it. Actually RR paint is great for working on and really does come up a treat
