I want to create a hidden switch on a 1992 190e 2.0 auto that will hopefully make it very hard to steal. I was considering either running a line from the ignition cables, or from the starter motor. I was planning on putting the switch under the seat or out of view under the dash...

has anyone tried this before? any ideas?!

Lots of kits to acheive what you describe were around 10/15 years or so ago before manufactures really got into gear regarding alarms/immobilsers. I fitted one at the time by simply putting an inline switch in the ignition coil circuit. I hid the switch as best I could but fortunately it was never tested by a thief.

The only reservation I had, and I still have, is its another link in a long chain re liability. But the fitment is simple and providing you buy a good quality switch and wiring you shouldn't have any problems.
