Do I have a mixture of faults or just one?

I have an N reg C280. When I turn the ignition on the switch for directing the air flow (Demist; window/feet; Feet; etc) flashes on and off. It seems to clear when the engine starts and the reverse or drive is selected. The heater also seems to blow hot all the time but I have noticed that if I put the blowers onto full blast for a few minutes with the heater settings at cold, this sometimes clears the problem and the heater blows cold air but nor always. Do I have several problems, is it a duff relay or something else? Anyone's help would be greatly appreciated.

You have some unknown faults, possibly poor connections in the control unit, or the switches or buttons need cleaning
