The right tools will always make the job quicker and safer and in the long run possibly cheaper.

.

Thanks Mike and Graeme!

And can I DIY the rears with External Spring Compressors,or with no compressors at all and just lower arm down??

Is yours the 96/P plater Coupe then Graeme??

Did the very last ones have any goodies added to them,to clear the parts bins a bit??

TIA

Not as deadly, because the spring sits deep in the 'lower spring link' recess,
and will not be jumping out very easily.

By the time you have lowered the link a little, there will not be much tension
remaining in the spring.

Yup that's mine. Funnily enough the last W124 220 coupes were not full of goodies They deleted the outside temperature gauge-- had the older design 15 hole alloys rather than the 8 hole alloys and one or 2 other cost cutting measures-- I don't think the 6 cylinder models had this cost cutting but they were quite a bit more expensive.

Because of restricted access using a trolley jack and lowering the suspension arm from its inner mounting bolt is the easiest way to do the rears IMHO without the right internal spring compressor tool
