The new alloys will be 9mm closer to the wheel arch on the rear but shouldn't present a problem.

Assuming the new alloys are staggered set up (ie wider at the rear) you need the following size tyres.

Fronts 225x45xR18
Rears 245x40xR18

Tyre and wheel specs takes from link below taken from link below.

Wrong, the wheels are going on a W204 NOT a W205.

The correct tyres for a W204 on 18" wheels is:

Front 225/40 R18
Rear 255/35 R18

The W204 wheels are:

Front Wheels: 7.5Jx17 ET47
Rear Wheels: 8.5Jx17 ET58

The W205 wheels are:

Front Wheels: 7.5Jx18 ET33
Rear Wheels: 8.5Jx18 ET49

So the new front wheels will sit 14mm further out and the rears 9mm further out (there is not a huge amount of room in the rear arch without rolling the lip!!!

Hi all, had my S204 for some time but only recently joined the forum world.

On this topic, I'm about to purchase a set of C63 reps (yes yes I know - budget is tight and genuine are made of cheese when it comes to UK roads!)

They are a square set up of 18x8 ET45
Standard fitment is 225/45/17 on 7.5x17 ET47 and 245/40/17 on 8.5x17 ET58 (hence the upgrade) on stock suspension

Looking at tyres and I'm after some info on profiles for the rear as I noticed w204 wheels have a 5mm lower profile on the rear for a staggered set up.

Q1) Do I need to maintain this profile difference? (So new would be 40 front 35 rear)

Q2) How can I do this with a square set up?
(Put 225 front and 235 rear?)

The new rims will poke out 7mm more which isn't an issue, but I'm not sure if they will be on a 40 profile tyre.

Thanks for any assistance

Put 225/40 R18" all round

Yes you are correct. I looked up the 205 set up instead of the 204. My bad.

Things must be dull today to be pulling me up on a 6 month old reply?;)

Hi all, I am looking for a bit of advice regarding winter wheels/ tyres for my 2015 C204 250 CDI.

I have recently bought a set of 17” naantali Mercedes Benz wheels - 7.5J 17H2 ET47 - 5 x 112 (5 holes PCD 112). They had 225/45/17 dunlop sp winter sport 3ds on them which are just about done.

I know someone who has a set of nearly new 235/45/17 yokohama winter tyres who will give me a good price. But my question is will they fit?

Any help would be appreciated.

Very likely they will but not guaranteed.
They will be 1/2" wider and 4mm taller.
If you have enough clearance you should be fine.

Use the willtheyfit website to see the effect.

Ive found the willtheyfit website to be quite inaccurate recently - having sized a spare wheel - the actual wheel when sourced was significantly larger despite the correct dimensions being added.

Hi, I have an SLK R171 and have been offered a set of 18" alloys I've looked at the guide as recommended on here https://www.alloywheelsdirect.net but I can't see the size on here, but just wanted to double check with someone for any advice:
the stamp on the back of the wheels are:
5x112
D8,5Jx18H2 ET49
D8jx18H2 ET45
and the tyres on them are 235 40 18 fronts and 255 35 18 rears
Any help would be welcomed
Thanks

Front Wheels: 7.5Jx18 ET42
Rear Wheels: 8.5Jx18 ET36

Tyres should be 225/40 front, 245/35 rear.

I'd be sceptical they would fit.

Hi forum members, I'm new here and a first time car owner so please don't mind the noob-like questions. :)

I am looking at replacing all the four tyres on my 2017 W213 (E220d) with Michelin Primacy 3/4 or Pilot Sport 4. I have the following contradictory data points to start with (pictures attached for all 3):
a). Pic of tyre size options from the fuel cap filter
b). Tyre and wheel size from certificate of conformity data sheet (in German but translated) --> 225/55 R17 97Y 7.5JX17 ET40
c). Tyre size when the car was first delivered brand new to the previous owner --> 245/45 R18 100V (also the spec of current tyres but with a slightly different load index and speed rating)

I mostly drive in the city (London) with a light load - me, wifey and a toddler in Eco/Comfort mode. I don't need winter tyres as I do not drive much in the winters. I would prefer 'decent looking' tyres without burning a hole in my pocket.

Will appreciate if the gurus here can help answer the following questions:
  1. Which size should I go for? 245/45 R18 or 225/55 R17 or any other size? (I would like to strike the right balance between comfort, looks and budget)
  2. Should I go for a staggered layout or the same size front and rear?
  3. Given my low load requirements and driving style, will the load index and speed rating matter much?
  4. And finally, given my mostly city and non-winter drives, should I go for Michelin Primacy 3, 4 or Pilot Sport 4?

Hello and welcome,

Are you planning on changing the wheels? If so I'd go with the 17"'s - they'll be more comfortable and the tyres will be cheaper

Thanks for a super quick response. Looking at changing all the 4 tyres. Perhaps a stupid question but does the wider profile and bigger rim size of 18 make it look any better than the 17s without impacting the comfort a lot? And are Run Flats requires if I drive mostly in the city?

Run flats and huge rims impact in the comfort, you’re driving a E Class Mercedes not a track car… enjoy the comfort and what the wheels look like from the drivers seat…

If you go to 17” tyres you will need 17” wheels…

I’d get a couple of cans of tyreweld and dump the run flats.

Just to split the opinion, I'd go for staggered 18" with wider rears. I had 18's on my E55 and they were comfortable.
I have 19's now and they are certainly not as forgiving as 18's

Go for one of these for your 213 and the recommended tyre sizes are indicated when you click on an alloy.

To answer your question about run flats when did you last have a puncture you couldn't fix at the roadside?
Of my 4 MBs two have no spare, one has a collapsible spare and one has a 'full size' spare (it's a 16" alloy when the car is actually on 19s).
Regards size don't bother with 19s (two of mine are on 19s, one of which started on 16s). The ride can be a bit jiggly on anything not perfectly smooth. One is on 16s (as from factory) and came with 15", 16", 17" or very rare 18" options. Even though it weighs next to nothing the ride is superb.
The last is on 18s - the smallest factory size available for it. No way would I go bigger as the ride is excellent.

Thanks all. This is super helpful. So my wheel size if 17" and the options I have as per the fuel cap filter are 16", 17", 18", 19" and 20" with OEM recommendation of 17".

What do I make of this table (screenshot) below ? It says that the best option for W213 is of course the OEM recommended 225/55 R17 followed by 245/40 R19 followed by 245/45 R18.

I do not want 19" so will choose between:
1). 225/55 R17 all around (for better ride quality) OR
2). 225/55 R17 for the front and 245/45 R18 for the rears in a staggered setup (if the preference is 'looks' of a wider/broader rear)

So if the priority is ride quality, 17" all around is the way to go?

Lastly, any reco b/w Michelin and Pirelli (and make/variant) from first hand experience?

Don't mix 17 and 18 inch wheels on the car.
Stick to 17 inch same size all round or 18 inch staggered set up.
A staggered set up is wider rims on the rear and wider tyres, not different diameter wheels front and rear.

17" for ride quality. Avoid Pirellis. Poor grip when part worn. Michelin or Goodyear would be my choice.
Asda tyres are good for tyres delivered to your choice of fitter at a great price.

Cheers. Yeah, not planning on changing the wheels. Was confused between 17" all around tyres or 17" front and 18" rear.

I can see some great deals at Costo and ATS Euromaster. Wasn't aware ASDA did tyres as well. Let me check.

Will go for Michelin. Would you recommend Primacy 3/4 or Pilot Sport 4? Also, a bit annoying to see higher prices for Mercedes Approved Michelin with MOE label vs the exact same Michelin make without it. Does it even matter?
