Do You Peoples Hand Over Keys & Wait In the Waiting Room?

Probably me being awkward but I resent just handing over the keys to my motor and being told to wait in the waiting room, "'elf and safety mate".

Never met the persons I must trust.
A car full of goodies, some very desirable.

Tbh this is different when there is a history and some trust developed. But in general these places allow me to hover, chat and even assist.

It's actually insurance.
Customers are not covered by insurance if in work areas.
H&S doesn't come into it as all they require is a process to ensure safety is adequately maintained which can be through training, supervision or limited access to dangerous areas.

I’ve relieved owners of the keys to some very expensive and rare cars in my time. Show interest, treat them and the car well, build trust. That’s how I’ve always done it. Have you seen the parking valets in Ferris Buellers Day Off??

Even these places that aren't so back street are often disorganised.
When it suits their need a person can be invited to view the works required on the mo mo.

Kwik Fit may well just tell you your brake pads want changing and you are expected to trust that, others may well show you.

i’ll be honest I’d simply refuse kwik fit (if I ever had to go there) I’d they said that and I wasn’t sure... it’s a sales ploy...but I know when my brakes are close to needing changing...

My local mot place is the same now..but they say it’s because they need to spend an hour logged in (even if it doesn’t take that long) to carry out a test and it means you aren’t hanging around...

I never leave anything valuable in a car before leaving for service, and as for something happening...everywhere has to have insurance

owner said it overheated in traffic. I was confident I’d found and fixed the fault. “I’m driving it to montpelier next week. I want you to properly road test it and make sure its fixed”. Yes sir! No problem at all!!

Never really thought about it - no matter how "shoddy" the place looks which might offend some "snowflakes" of course....lol.
Actually I've usually found it's the places that might look suspect to the average snowflake where I get what I need to be done because they are more interested in doing the job than making the place look pretty so they can impress the snowflakes, (aka dicks) amongst us normal folk.
