Tempted to get some Gummi Pflege as I have a bit of 'creaking' which I suspect is related to a door seal. I gather this is the stuff to sort it. However, I seem to remember hearing somewhere that B*W stopped using it for 'health and safety' reasons. Any info appreciated.

This is the stuff B*W sell for the Eos roof seals etc : Lots about it on Eos/B*W forums if you Google, as it appears Eos roofs are notorious for seal leaks/creaks!

It's supposed to be the mutts for re-invigorating seals, but when I enquired on 968uk forum, no-one came forward having used it, but there were a couple of recommendations for Gummipflege. However, gummi's main use seems to be stopping door seals from freezing during winter, whereas the Krytox is mainly for refreshing the rubber of the seals! I'm tempted to try the Krytox on my 968 cab,

Krytox is the most effective in my experience (7 years of R230s count!)

Hi,
I bought gummi to use on my AMG after the respray, I have since used it on my Audi Cab, the rubber seals on the hood looked like they had weathered a bit but several applications over 4-5 days and the seals now look new.

Does it actually soften the aged rubber or is it more cosmetic so they look new? What I've read about Krytox is that it is actually absorbed into the rubber, thus returning the rubber to its original softness (and thus effectiveness). I haven't seen anything about Gummi absorbing into the rubber - but it's 1/6 the price of Krytox (2 x 100ml sticks for £10 delivered, rather than best part of £30 for 1oz, 28ml!)

From their website -

"Unlike many treatments for rubber, Gummi Pflege doesn't simply buff rubber to look new. Gummi Pflege provides real, deep down protection, helping to prolong the life of rubber seals, gaskets and trims, providing protection against cold, heat and UV radiation from the sun."

There's so much on the net about curing creaks and groans from door seals etc - another product I've seen recommended is 303 aerospace protectant, which is even cheaper than Gummi! However, all the threads I've read seem to split 50/50 between Krytox and Gummi, there's no clear split in favour of one or the other. Guess I'll try gummi first as it's so much cheaper - I gather the price of Krytox (from the official UK supplier rather than eBay USA!) is now £41 - which could be +VAT +£3.50 P&P - whereas I can get 2 x 100ml sticks of Gummi for £10 delivered on eBay. The rebranded VW version of Krytox GPL 105 (same stuff, different label on the bottle!) is over £50 for the same bottle!

BVW doesn't sound right, try a different letter inbetween the B and M

The internet seems to reckon it fell out favour as it contains silicone, the places that sell it often claim it to be silicone free and water based. As gummi pflege literally means 'rubber care' maybe there's various flavours about some of which contain solvents that don't do rubber much good in the long term

OK, I had a Rodney moment, of course the Eos is a VW not a B*W. However, I've visited so many different car forums researching this stuff (including Audi, VW and sundry others) it's not surprising I got confused.

The Eos sites in particular say do not use silicone as it does the rubber no good at all.

I have personally used Gummi Pflege on a few cabriolet leaking roofs, and it has rejuvenated the rubbers and stopped the leaks..
The one it didn't work on ..megane cab. was later cured by resealing the glass to metal joints with a silicone based sealer.

I was recommended this, on here, by several posters. It is specifically made for lubricating rubber so has no rubber killing contaminants etc. It both stopped several squeaks around the car (including a suspension bush - still quiet 18 months later) and stops my door and glass sticking to the rubber in winter. Best of all, as it is a utility product, there is no stupid price mark-up:

I used GP and it made the rubber "melt" = yuk.

Sware by Krytox, best way to get it is via AUDI, one of each is best...

Interesting......I have not tried the spray but there is no doubt that some of the contact points are tricky to access with a sponge.

Yes, this spray comes out very very fine indeed, like a fog really, not like a spray at all. The "fog" drifts into places that would take hours to access otherwise.
