Hi folks, new here and first post.
I'm considering buying a 2011 E250 Convertible (55K miles). Are there any known issues with the roof leaking, roof motor failing or inside 'steaming' up?
My better half had a VW EOS with a folding hardtop which had continual roof and boot leaks -a regular known issue- and I don't want the same problem again!

Hello and welcome

Not particularly, apply gummi pfledge and/or silicone spray to the rubber seals regularly and keep the drains clear and you should be fine.

The EOS is known to leak like a sieve.

Fully agree with what BC says above. When I first got my 968 cab (canvas roof) I researched roof maintenance (9+ years ago) and the amount of stuff I found about problems with Eos roof seals was incredible - BMW actually said the seals needed treating twice a year with their Krytox - which was over £40 for a small bottle! I treated the 968 roof seals 2-3 times a year with Gummipflege (about £12 for 2 tubes, each of which lasted quite a few years) from Micks Garage on eBay, never had a leak. I use Gummi to this day on the door seals of the S204 (before winter/frost sets in as she lives on the driveway, don't want sticky doors!!) and the door and roof seals of the SLK280 which is normally garaged.

Fabric roof's generally don't. I see that, if I dare use the word on here that BMW  have ditched the steel folding roof in favour of the fabric roof because the steel folders leak and the Fabric ones don't

The solution that fixed the EOS issue was Krytox. It is what MB sell & use to lubricate folding roof seals. Expensive ~£40 for an 'eyedrops' sized bottle. I reckon the bottle I have will last me several years is goes a long way and according to teh literature lasts a very longtime.

Then there is Gummi Pflege (a few makes) that I found got dry and held dust (on my SLK that I had for 3 years in a hot climate). YMMV.

Sadly this does not answer your question but if the previous owner did any sort of maintenance on the seals, you probably have a better chance of it not leaking.

On a separate matter does this model have a timing belt or chain and at what mileage should it be changed? Thanks.
