does it sound like my "kick-down" cable needs replacing/adjusting?

This is my original post..Bought an e240 1998 76k about 6 weeks ago.

Over last 2-3 weeks when you put your foot down, the revs increase but it doesnt change gear until you release your foot off accelerator... also, when stop on a steep hill it will not hold unless you apply brake - starts rolling back!

just had gearbox fluid checked - level etc is fine...

Anyone any ideas? - man said to just run it til it breaks???? as needs seals replacing - anyone any idea how much this will cost?

Anyone you can recommend in west yorkshire area?

After doing some reading, I m just wondering if it could be the kick-down cable needs tightening/replacing?

It ll be thurs before I can get to garage so any advice would be fab?
Anyone got rough costs of ;
new MAF fitting or new cable fitting/adjusting?

Same answer as before (22nd), no cable fitted to this model. report back once you have tried/borrowed an air mass

As advised had the MAF checked and cleaned as didnt have access to borrow one. Car drives much more smoothly and feels better but kick-down still not as it should be?

Dave, if your kick down is not working at all I would suggest you look at the switch under the accelerator pedal first ,shown at No.53 here; http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb2.as...GM=717.460&CT=F&cat=44V&SID=54&SGR=640&SGN=20 .

fist thing check the fluid level then have a look at the switch on the floor under the accelerator pedal for basic function or damage even obstruction is the pedal pressing the switch
