I have recently bought my wife a 1999 230 SLK. I went to fill it up and put in the super unleaded and my wife said that she didn't realize that she should use the better fuel and had been using the normal fuel. I can't say that I have noticed any difference. Is there a need to use the higher octane fuel or with the modern fuels, does it really matter?

On your vehicle i dont think it will make much difference. I have only really noticed a difference in high performance cars like 600+ bhp as the engines will pink on lower octane fuel

I used the best stuff n the 911 and it does make a difference, cant see it would make much on a 4 pot though. My CL500 loves the stuff. Better mpg.

Only difference I noticed was the cost. No noticeable difference in performance in accelleration or MPG on a my C320 petrol V6 and that was on filling a full tank from almost empty.

Waste of money as far as I am concerned,

I did worse mpg on the same journey, apart from the cost :(

We tried it a few times and didn't notice any difference either, so seems to be a waste of money
