Can anyone help us with our canine problem? We have just acquired an ML320 and find that our dogs- three of them ( two spaniels and a lab) - slide about in the back boot. We have tried putting a rug down to help make the carpet less slippery for them. Has anyone any ideas of how to pad out the edges of the boot to make it more comfy for travelling esp when cornering? Any suggestions from owners who have found the same problem , would be really appreciated. Many thanks

We have the same problem, three Bernese mountain dogs. they like to sit which isnt good in a moving car. the TE has a thick carpet on the boot floor which seems to do the job for grip, find or use some old carpet cut to fit the boot space. It works well.

When I was a lad (Dark ages), my dad had a couple of cocker spaniel gundogs.
Naturally when arriving back at the vehicle, they were a bit muddy!
He had trained them to jump into the back onto a couple of sacks, which he then tied up at their necks! They sat there, quite happily and didn't slide about.

When I got a bit older, I managed to get my Lab to sit in a large shopping bag when he was a pup, which I then seatbelted him into the passenger seat of my spitfire. As an adult dog he sat across the back of the seats.

Later dogs had no problems in the back of Volvos and Landrovers, but Range Rovers were a bit high for older dogs to enter.

Try taking corners at a sensible speed, that is one that is commensurate with the dangerous loose cargo you are carrying.

Get a dog cage for the back, with a rubber base mat. You can get a custom made one for your vehicle for about £250. It will save your vehicle from scratches/mud/hair/blood, and keep the dogs safe.

I have travelled thousands of miles with gundogs to field trials/shooting all over the country and could not have managed without one.

Just Google" Dog Bag " or "car dog cages" and then take your pick! The dog bags are about £100 and are really good. If you want better then you really can't beat the Lintran Transit Boxes as mentioned earlier! Works for my Australian Cattle dog.
