On my 1997 c180 the door kick plates - plastic, grey with silver metal strip inserts.

On the two front doors - the shiny metal strips are coming off - where can I get replacement silver metal strips or possibly carbon inserts to replace these.

:p

These things only come complete from MB unless you can fabricate something your self

I had exactly the same thing happen to my W202. I tried double sided adhesive trim tape from Halfords which held them for a while but in the end I had illuminated sills fitted which just go over the top of the present sills.

door sills

trying to get hold of stainless door sills is like trying to get doo doo from a rocking horse.

KMS say that they have the non illuminated ones and the illuminated ones but when I rang up they had neither.

Anyway I popped down to my local custom car place (chaucers in Canterbury) and they provided me with some 2mm thick stainless steel tape (on a roll).

I removed the now torn silver strips from the front sills, rubbed it down with sticky stuff remover, used a blade to remove the rest by means of scraping and used a sticky stuff wipe to remove the rest.

I then put this tape in place and using a very sharp knife and a wooden craft smoother moulded the tape to the sill. took about an hour for both sides.

Looks well smart, is waterproof and can be polished up.

:D
