Morning all,
I've been thinking of replacing my door mirrors with the type that have the indicators in the covers.
Mine is a 1999 facelift SL320 (R129) with the rounded mirror cover.
Question is were they a standard fix in the last models produced or are they from another model that are the same shape / size as that on the SL, and fitted by the owners. (Television, I noticed you have them on the photo of your SL)
Then comes the question of the wiring. Is it an easy job, or best left to the proffesionals?
Any advice would be greatful.
Cheers.

It is fairly easy to do, it involves extending the two wires from the mirror lamps taking them through the door into the side kick panel and joining up to the plug on the instrument cluster, the mirror covers come ready painted.

If you fancy doing it I will give you a detailed account

My car was a 99

Thanks Television.
Are the covers from an SLK (last shape before present one) or specifically for the SL?

Malcolm, without wanting to hi-jack this thread , would it be a similar job to convert my wife's 230SLK (R170) and do I have to buy complete mirrors or just the covers and if so are they ordered ready painted?

The glass is from the R170, the housings are specific to the R129. The SLK ones do fit however.

Yes you can change them to the indicator type, the cost is about £170 they come ready painted, the wiring involves taking off the door panels so that you can feed the wires through the trunking, this can be pulled up from the top of the kick panel with a wire hook and then wired into the plug on the instrument cluster.
this makes the wiring easy, and I do like the appearance of the indicators, you just leave the repeaters wired in

Thanks Malcolm, I think I'll put it on my "winter jobs to do list" along with turning over the PSE pump - which incidently I managed to buy some 6mm nylon tubing from these people, they have outlets all over the country and luckily enough for me my outlet is just 15 minutes from where I work :D......

Pirtek are notoriously expensive - we used to use them for diesel hoses and couplings on generators.
