Hi,
I, suddenly, have a problem on my 2003 C Class WDB203 where the Door Open warning comes up, even though all doors are securely closed. If I press either the Up or Down arrows on the steering wheel this then disappears, only to come back on randomly.
As the interior light also does not come on and then fade out, as normal when set to do so, I suspect it could be a fault with the switch on the door pillar.
Living in France, we are a bit short on auto electricians, so confirmation of this and a diy solution would be helpful.
Any help would be appreciated.

Check the door switch hasn’t cracked and fallen in.

The switch itself should be easy to remove and check for continuity. If a wire is broken/shorting in the pillar that would be more complicated.

Thanks for the replies star & mike

Just had a look at the switch (in situ) and It is very loose in it’s hole and, almost, disappears into the hole when pushed.
Judging by the marks on the switch housing. it looks like the previous owner had a problem with it.
Also from the marks, I am guessing that you use a screwdriver or suchlike to prise the switch from the hole, correct?

Thanks for that star (I think!).
Knowing me I'd get it out and then lose all the cables back down the pillar!
Looks like it will have to be a a long trip to the MB dealership or wait until I come over to England next.
Definitely turning out to be one of those weeks.

Before unplugging the switch wrap or tie a fish around the cable on the car side of the plug.
A long cable tie would do.

At least then if you drop the plug into the pillar it can be fished out again.
