The doorless SL55AMG allows for faster acceleration and a higher top speed by eliminating the wind drag produced by the door handles and the linear air pockets that surround the door. This version of the SL comes with a small stool that allows the driver to enter and exit the car more easily than would have been the case had not the small stool been supplied. The distinctive Mercedes star graces each step on the stool.

Since this version of the SL lacks doors there is no need for a locking mechanism. This reduces the drain on the electrical system allowing the extra amperage to be directed into the cigar lighter socket.

it will only work with the roof up, if indeed it does give any advantages.

A Kleeman SL600 did 191 down a runway event i was at. with the roof off it would not get above 184. My SLK lost 5-6mph with the roof down and the additional drag slowed its acceleration.

the doors being smoother may get you almost 1 whole mph, if you are lucky.

mind you, by removing the door mirrors you may get another 0,5mph on top too.

I saw a guy being fried at McDonalds today, he was in a rag top Merc. I was thinking that if he didn't spend his day eating McDonalds he could have saved enough money for a car with a roof.

If you want to go faster, take the windscreen off.

Why not just tape up the door holes and gaps? I might try this on my hire KIA Panto, I might be able to turn on the A/C and still get to 70 mph. You will have the option to remove the tape and get the doors back if you want. Why not remove the exterior door handles and use a thing on the key fob to open the doors?

I have been upgraded from my KIA Panto to a Fiat/Ferrari Panto. This has a thing on the key fob to open the boot as the boot doesn't have any handles. You get in the car, get your seatbelt on, get everything set up and then go to turn the key...click...the boot opens (as you touch the button on the key fob)...you have to get out and close the boot!

I guess I have just answered my own question.
