Must try this

I found after accidentally putting some diesel into the petrol tank I got a bit more mileage!

You cant save 4 mpg by turning the Air con off for a start, what he took out of the boot would make no difference

I know it's always been said but I have never found an improvement switching off the aircon. Not in this or my previous car.

Does the aircon not cut in and out as required (it did on my previous car)? Or does the compressor run continuously? I know it cuts out under heavy acceleration.

The compressor runs all of the time these days but if the air con is turned off the loading on the compressor stops.

They did up to around 2000-2001 my SL has no clutch, so we have to be careful now when we ask people if the clutch engages

lol if that was the case , they would already be adding it to the fuel .

The cynic in me says "Why would the fuel companies do such a thing"? Their fuel sales would be down - and their profits would drop. Unhappy shareholders?

I feel sure that some fuel supplier would have added it just to get the publicity if it worked, think of the advertising blurb, "our petrol gives you more MPG"

Spot the flaw?

What if this increase in mpg really WAS the case? Do you not think that all the oil companies would agree NOT to use it, for the very reason stated?

It's just like the everlasting lightbulb..!!!

Question is, what would it cost them to add acetone?
If they did, it would reduce their cost per gallon but they could charge a lot more.
I suspect there is a price to be paid at some point. Either the fumes produced are highly toxic and illegal or else there is substantial damage caused to the engine through prolonged use. Also, I wonder what it does to the plastic components in your fuel system!
