I saw the below in the article you posted, there's the new tax revenue to replace diesel and petrol tax once the majority switch to electrickery...

At least brake pads don't have asbestos in them anymore.

I saw an article where a guy with a BMW i3 had done 200k and was still on the original brake pads all round as the regenerative braking means he hardly uses the brakes.

Having driven an i3 I can see how he did it, take your foot off the throttle and it is like stamping on the brakes on a normal car. Takes quite awhile to get to drive it smoothly and you slow down with your foot still on the accelerator... very strange way of driving and not nice or fun

That's why low dust copper free pads are now available ahead of future legislation.


Now they need to legislate the ordinary pollen filters .

Fix the problem at source, not at the pollen filter.

Come on Al , those ordinary pollen filters are nothing but wrinkled kitchen towels , not fit for purpose !

Loads of particulates of all kinds , tyre rubber , brake dust etc .

Especially where the car driver and occupants get to breathe the most outside pollution compared to other road and footpath users .

The fix will take time , but in the short term..

A super pollen filter may help the occupants (if they are in a tin top) but does nothing to actually help the environment.

Seems obviously to me - I mean, the car is revving higher and hotter during a DPF region, so even if the car wasn't burning off soot and ash in the DPF, it would still increase the emissions.

There's a long way to go (essentially to electric) but we can't pretend that diesels with a DPF aren't any better than an old diesel from 1992 that spews black filth out the back!

Also, Nissan Qashqai's are apparently one of the worst diesels for emissions, even a brand new one! This is according to an article that i read on the internet, one time :)

Next step might be having to have your dpf "serviced" regularly, rather than have it doing its own thing. The particulates could then be trapped whilst being re-genned. More service costs of course.
