- 2013 Class Estate 250
Hi all,
A new member seeking some much needed assistance here.
About 2 months ago the engine warning light came on on our 2013 250 C Class estate. The car eventually got seen (local mechanics were booked up for weeks, must be covid backlog!) at at Merc dealership where they identified a couple of issues.
One was the DPF needed to be cleaned and the other was a split in a pipe that needs to be replaced - the pipe was on the offside side of the engine bay and visible from under the bonnet and underneath (pic to follow).
I had the pipe replaced by another local mechanic and it was serviced and MOT’d at the same time. The warning light came on after it was reset and I booked a DPF clean out - this was £200 and they came out to do it remotely, it wasn’t stripped down fully. These guys told me that the sensor on the DPF needed changing which I did.
All good for about a week! Then I was going along and hear a bit of a pop and whoosh before the car limped for a quarter of a mile and then went back into safe mode.
Back to another garage and the pipe with the split in had gone again. That’s been replaced but the warning light remains on and the diagnostic check says the regen has never been completed either manually or automatically -“last regen 85,000miles” which is the cars total mileage. The garage is recommending I do an hours drive on the motorway for the auto regen to kick in but I’ve done loads of 1hr+ journeys in the 5 years I’ve had the car and if it hasn’t automatically done it then why would it start now?
So… a couple of questions I hope you guys can help with:
1. If the auto regen is not happening is there a recall issue and I can take it back to Merc?
2. Seems very odd a brand new pipe would split a week after being fitted - is this common and what prevents it?
3. Where do you recommend I go from here if a long journey doesn’t auto regen? I’m pretty loathed to fork out for another clean but will do if that’s what’s required.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read it and any info is really appreciated!
Michael
