Any one done this,, it is possible . I do know that you can use the auxiliary coolant pump ,,by removimg the plug from the rear and then put a 12volt feed to it , to get auxiliary pump to work ..The engine will not be needed to do this operation ...just N + P wire from your battery to auxiliary coolant puimp . So the A/pump will suck out the old coolant but it must have an outlet for the old coolant to escape This is were i am stuck ---so what must be dissconected to let the old coolant escape ? I need the information so i can do this myself. I want to remove all of the old colant,, so i can refill 50/50 . My block tap is stuck and untill i get the manifolds off i cant fix it . Thanks for looking in .

you could remove the stat and a rad hose and do a backflush.

Fill with water run it, empty - a few times.

then add half vol of antifreze and top up rest with water.

I saw a video of a coolant change and flush where they removed the return pipe ( engine to expansion tank) started the engine and let pump out the old fluid, ( into a container by adding some plastic piping ) while replacing it in the tank, first with just water, and when it was running clean, adding 50 /50 anti freeze mix. Was not in an MB though. So not sure if it would work. But maybe some one here has done it, and can advise?

Thanks Jim but there is a way to use the aux pump to clear coolant, that way you dont have to keep filling up the coolant tank . I saw it on a forum should have keept it ,, but i never thought i would ever need it .

Yes this will keep the entire circuit open.
An ideal time to replace the stat

I have just filled up the coolent system after i have fitted a new Gates t/stat i removed the brass vent blanking plug on the sensor rail till water came out ,,and it took 6 ltr ... So we do have old coolant still in there .I will run it for a few mins so its circulates , and then drain it off from bottom hose .Refill and repeat a few times then when coolant is clear ,,refit the bottom hose and tip in the 5 ltr of a/f mix followed by water .Test the strength till its the right strength /
