Hi Everone

I won't dwell or go on to much...!!

4 months ago I purchase my gorgeous 2012 white c250 cdi, absolutely loved the car both inside and out. The way it drove was a dream. Unfortunately we have been broken into and my keys was taken and the car has now long gone ☹️ Just over a week ago!!

I have searched and searched to find the same spec/model to what I had... So the reason for my post, the only similar car I can find is a c350 cdi, could anyone that has had a c350 give me a true MPG? If it's miles under what the c250 can do I'll be sticking with that. I'm no boy racer. And combine long distance with short. Any advice would be fantastic?

Thanks

Sorry to hear about this I think we all know how you feel.

There are one or two C350cdi owners on the forum and the general consensus is that they are a very good car.

I'm sure the mpg won't be as good but it will be interesting to see what owners say

I have an E350 which averages just over 40mpg on B roads, when in France around 52mpg on their superb auto routes.

I am assuming the engine is the same but maybe the C class is a bit lighter.

My readings are from onboard computer.

Sorry to hear that. The 350 will definitely give you less miles. I would guess 25% less in real world. (We have both an E 220 and E350 and the 350 gives us average 32mpg, with same driving the 220 gives us 43).
BUT...the 350 is so much nicer to drive. Much smoother and more refined. And of course quicker!!

I've had a C320CDI which is basically the same engine, slightly older engine electronics and that used to do 34mpg combined and I saw 46mpg from it on a run.

Personally I would have a C350cdi over a C250 anyway.

Welcome and so sorry to hear of your loss. Ultimately it was just property, neither you nor your family were hurt and presumably your insurance has/ is paying out to compensate you.

I have an new E220 (same engine as your 250) that averages, combined... 36.23mpg actual measured usage. This is from new, on 200 miles delivery mileage on the odo. My last trip achieved 42.50mpg, which worked out to 13.8p/mile. My worst fill achieved 29.0mpg which worked out to 16.2p/mile... I can't see you getting much below 30mpg with a 350. The difference to you will be around 2-3p/mile, or a few quid a tank extra equivalent.

If you can afford the bigger engine as purchase price, I don't think the running costs are so dramatically different in the real world for "average" mileage.

Sorry to hear about that

I have a C350Cdi and used to have a C220Cdi, I could not go back to the 4pot engine, I get 30+ round town and 45 on a run, the engine is sublime

That's a real bummer!
Most on here would agree I think that the 350 is the smoother , more responsive engine, and although I don't have personal experience I know those who have them seem to be happy enough with the mileage returns. I do know one guy with an E350 estate who regularly drives to France and is returning close or on 50mpg (and he doesn't hang about either!)

Thanks everybody really appreciate all your responses!!

Everyone one in the Family is fine, We was all asleep!! Just my car and the mrs cars taken, The insurance claim is ongoing so I'm quite interested to see what they will offer!!!! once the settlement is agreed i will be buying another Mercedes.

In my c250 my MPG over 4 months would it not budge from 36MPG overall, wondered if it was broke lol.

After reading all the post I'm really leaning towards a c350, I'm going to test drive a couple next week so will keep you all posted.... I'm getting that excited feeling again :)) just got to tell the Mrs now ha.

Thanks everyone really appreciate all the feedback and comments

We are all fine and nobody was hurt, Myself, mrs and my two little ones were all sleeping and we didn't here a thing.. probably for the best. The insurance claim is still ongoing and I'm waiting for the settlement payment... ill be vey interested to see what comes back.

With my c250 i had it for just over 4 months and the MPG overall would not budge from 36MPG, Maybe i am a little heavy footed!! hah, But on longer runs i would get over 40 for the trip. I loved the drive of the c250 so i can't imagine what the c350 will be like.

After reading the posts and I'm really swaying towards the c350, I've arranged for a test drive next week and getting that excited feeling back ha.. just have to tell the Mrs now.

Ill keep you posted and thanks again

I would say if you can afford it go for the 350. I do like my C220 and compared to my previous diesels, a focus and bora, it is quiet and smooth. But my friend's E350 is a class above, quick, quiet and still pretty frugal.

I have the E220, I'm picking up an E320 at the end of the month and the difference is staggering. The 350 is a bigger-turbo'd version of that engine (unless you're looking at the petrol 350?)

By the way, at 9k miles my E220 has just changed from 38mpg average/ tank to 42.5... from one week to another. I'm sure these cars aren't run in until they reach 60-70k.

Used to have a C63...
I was getting 38-30 mpg (calculates) from a CLS320 CDI, and that not making a concerted effort towards economy.

As has been said, I don't think you'll be too disappointed with the economy, and once you've driven the 350...

I'm not looking at a Petrol, the one I have seen is a c350 cdi diesel. Haven't had time to test drive it. I can't wait.

Thank you for the detailed reply, it's funny as my combined MPG was 36 on the c250. Which I thought from all the reading up on it before purchasing it was a little disappointing. So the concern is if it falls way below id be quite worried.
