Their addicts stumbling from one disaster to another.
I know someone similar, everything to live for but killing themselves with drink, she has crashed a number of times now she has had the car taken away its the only way to protect others.

It's only a matter of time before he wipes out a family ... perhaps a bullet?
Obvously contributing nothing to society!

The thing is we can all see ow this will end and play out, a family wiped out, they are looking for answers and none to be found.

Yep, Yep BULLET !

My sister married into a right bunch and as a consequence ended up with a nephew who seems to spend 1-2 nights a month in the cells.

Amongst his crimes are several assaults (1 on a young man with Downs)
Assault on ex-girlfriend and at least 1 other person POST suspended sentence.
Arrested in possession of a knife 3 times (maybe more)
Vandalised several cars (he's 26, not 14!)
Several counts of resisting arrest/assault on Police.

Still no custodial sentence. He's under a 6 months suspended for 2 years and has committed 2 assaults since then.

Protecting the public? Trouble is the Police can bust a gut with cretins like this but the courts take no notice whatsover.
So if a violent knife carrier is almost impossible to jail (I reckon he will killl sooner or later) what chance do we have with a drunk driver?

One of the richest residents near my friend in ...............Mersyside has appeared on numerous consumer programmes, scammed many an old person, dealt in allsorts, lives very very well and has done for decades.
Crime does pay in his case many 10's of millions.

Magistrates are there primarily to take money of us - in the name of punishment.
Trouble is, if someone has none - there's not a lot else they can do.
Unless a person breaks a law and causes significant loss or harm, they wont go to a criminal court.

The problem is parenting - or the lack of any!

What has parenting got to do with drink driving? When someone turns 18 they are responsible for their own actions.

...and that sort of attitude is just why so many kids grow up and end up like this. :(:(:( and worse!

Yes he might be over 18, but responsible for his own actions. Even if he is irresponsible. But until that age his parents if he had any should have taught him how to behave, and right from wrong.

No doubt many will disagree

What sort of attitude? Could you please get off your high horse before you get a nosebleed?

You have absolutely no understanding of why certain people do certain things. Some people are just made to be criminals. Rehabilitation doesnt work and it's as if they have that as a mental condition. If it was as simple as a parenting issue then I think that nurturing would improve and rehabilitate alot of the prison population in our current system. However seeing as your comment isnt fully informed, yes I'll disagree.

Absolutely, we brought up 2 very good boys, never been in any trouble ever, always polite and now both doing very well in life.

I have been in 1000s of houses where the kids control the parents with no respect for any one or any thing.

I think to start with it does help if you try and take part in a child's life from the start, and all the way through their school years and beyond.

When my eldest went for his first job, I went with him and he got the job over 50 others, the tester said that I was the only one in 6 months that had bothered to come.

so what about the 60 year old drink drivers who have been caught 2 or 3 times?
are their parents to blame?
if I go and get ****ed tonight and drive is it my parents fault?

a bloke round near me has been caught half a dozen times driving while banned for DD, he was also drunk on a couple of occasions
he has eventually got prison afaik 6 months and banned for 10 years with his land rover confiscated he is 51 years old
I have no doubt he will re offend when he comes out because he can't seem to stop

it has absolutely nothing to do with parenting

If it's down to the parents, then it must be down to the parents parents too.
Adam & Eve have got a lot to answer for.

It isn't a reason for all crime but poor parenting is implicated in lots of crime and at its core is lack of respect for other people.
When the brat walks over everyones chairs uses Tesco's toy aisle as a play centre and learns that tantrums get results that sows the seeds for later life.
I don't steal because my parents taught me respect for others and their property.
I don't drink drive because I respect others.
I am like the majority thank goodness and my son learns the same every day.

If these peoples parents were not good parents then they have gone through life with no respect for others.

I am 78 and I know people from my school that steal, get drunk and have no respect for any thing even today, and this has been on going all their life so age does not come into it.

Theres a lot of inconsistancy in the legal system that depends on the judge on the day. My speeding friend will get a worse punishment yet arguably his crime was a lot less severe and is proven to be of much better character with no criminal record and a good steady job and her co-operated with the police?
