My 180 C-class 2008 automatic has developed a two-fold problem where randomly the ‘drive’ (P, R, N and D) display on the dashboard display will get 'disabled' whilst driving along i.e. the ‘D’ option will no longer be shown selected in the display and the 'C' or 'S' (Comfort / Sport) option selected also disappears. When this happens there is a significant loss of power experienced. The only option is to pull over and restart the car. Additionally the yellow engine warning lamp is coming on intermittently. I just wondered if anybody had any suggestions/ideas please?

This could be the gear selector ECU playing up, STAR will confirm it, has any drink been spilt in the car recently.

If the car is not used that much then a possible low battery problem where the re start cures it

Thank you for the suggestions posted. I did take the car into my local Mercedes specialist to have the diagnostics run but they said (somewhat unconvincingly) that they could do nothing about it without seeing the actual problem to hand. I wonder though have anyone actually experienced the same issue and if so what was the fix?

In many cases the MAF will cause this, but saying that there are many reason that can all give the same symptoms.

You dealer is not telling the truth, if the engine lamp has been on a fault code will be left.
