2001 320CLK Auto.- The car has been in storage a little while and the battery was completely flat. After charging, the selector will not engage in drive. I have seen from the handbook that a pencil poked into an aperture will temporarily allow drive to be engaged (it does work). Does anyone know the permanent solution to this problem - secondly can anyone recommend a reliable service maintenance shop around the Perth/Edinburgh area. Thanks

Hello and welcome,,its too early days to know if there is a fault with the selector,,Batteries should not be charged wit the key left in the switch. The brake light switch could cause the fault. I would disconnect the battery for 5 mins and connect up again, not with the key in.
