Not a problem yet, but may well be in the future.

I have noticed that the drivers side mirror on the ML270 is going slightly brown, when sun shines direct onto it, so i suspect the auto dim LCD function is on the way out.
I have never switched on the auto dim (button on underside of rear view mirror) but have just seen how much this bit of glass costs !!!!
Could it be replaced with just a normal heated mirror glass ?, or is that going to throw up a fault code if one of the many ECU's does not detect the auto dim function.
Normal heated glass is £15.00
Auto dim glass £75.00

Its ok at the moment, but something i may have to consider soon'ish

You can fit a non dimming glass replacement without any fault codes occurring. I've done it on a previous car due to the silly cost of a dimming mirror glass replacement.
You may have to cobble together some kind of connection for the heated mirror to work as I believe the mirror has just two prongs for a live and neg wire and you currently have a plug that connects to the dimming mirror.

Another alternative may be to find a complete mirror on eBay with glass and just take out the glass. It will be cheaper than £75.

Edit...... and as if by magic

Checking of course that the second had replacement has a dimming glass. I bought a replacement mirror assembly for my R Class, the replacement mirror glass was just heated unlike my original dimming glass but I managed to swap the loom & glass over.

You can also do a zero cost DIY special; split it, remove the poo, seal it up again.
