Dreaming of a CL55k - one day maybe....
Hi all,

After having the car now for a while, my only complaint with the whole thing is the drivers seat.

It's a bit worn on the side bolster but the real gripe is a real lack of lumbar support. Merc obviously know this as they offered an orthapedic option with adjustable lumbar.

Now I know I won't be able to fit the orthapedic seat, but as mine has the heaters, I don't just want to put cushions in the lumbar area, i'd like a neat solution - does anyone know if you can remove the cover (which is badly worn anyway) and fit a cushion behind the leather facing to plump out the lumbar bit at all or am I on a loser with this one?? I have seen a new facing for sale with Merceuroparts but I don't know if it's the same colour/trim yet, and if it has the heating elements in it.

Thanks

Grant

As you have a PSE pump, you could fit a seat from a breaker and blow it up, where you need the support.

You could remove the cover and fit foam, but very hard to make it look nice, but if you just wanted that little extra support then a foam pad where you need it under the cover may work OK

It the pump that is used for the locking and etc,, you do have one.

I have the comfort seats, and they are so nice on a run.

It would only need some tubing to join it up

There is a good chance that it has not been activated, and the car does not know that it has them.

Other than that, there is a pipeline from the pump that feeds a reserve tank, from there it feeds the back rest, a common fault on early cars ir where the pipe under the seat has kinked if the height adjustment has been used a lot

You can buy just the bladder, but you would have no means of blowing them up unless you can make a valve, and that is the hard bit

Hmm ok, see what you're saying. But I am unlikely to want to adjust it, could I manually blow it up until I'm comfortable with something like an airline etc then seal it off??

Yes the are enough bits in a hand spray kitchen cleaners to do this and they have a one way valve.

After MB told me that I had a leak, I blew the seat up with my own small compressor and used the tubes and the valve from the cleaner bottle and some fish tank tubing, a bicycle valve would do the job. MB got it wrong, but that's another story

The bladders have 2 or 3 pockets, and you could blow up the one or more of your choice for comfort

The Mr Mucsle Hand spray kitchen and bathroom cleaner bottles contain a one way valve in a plastic pipe form that that fit the seat pad pipes, and very useful for joing split plastic pipes

Ha ok understand now.

Might look into whether I can find a bladder anywhere.

Also trying to find a new seat cover as the seat is badly worn.
