ah, but depressing the foot brake will increase global warming with all of those brake lights illuminating

But...does a foot brake have feelings...can it really get depressed?

Big problem, how does one know how long one may be sitting there, but yes hold with foot brake even if you wished that you had turned off 15 minutes ago

This is easy outside the UK Malcolm, wait for the blast of car horns apply handbrake and switch off engine!
This principle should not be applied in Italy as the car horns start within 6.3 seconds.

There is no sprag clutch on the 7g box as it is not needed,I think that all cars that have the 7g box have the hold on the brake pedal for both SBC and EBC.

Cars with the 5g will hold in the W mode but not S mode.

There is no real time limit for how long you sit there in D as nothing much happens

My R Class doesn't. ****** annoying!

Well having had a 722.6 gearbox fail in the past due to high wear of the idler gears I now always leave my car in drive when stopping.

Good practice to put the parking brake on when stopping, also advised in the Highway Code.
Two reasons:
1. If your foot slips off the foot brake the car will roll/move unintentionally.
2. If someone runs into the back of you, then having the parking brake works in your favour in several aspects.

My parking brake works much better now that I've performed some maintenance on it.

I think most people use the right foot...others the left, but less so.

I've been driving autos a very long time. All the advice I have ever seen about the brake pedal, e.g. IAM, suggests the right foot should be used.

Which is what I do except when holding the car on a very steep hill. Then I use the left foot to ensure no possibility of roll back.

1: double push of the brake pedal to "hold" and flick into neutral at long wait lights. It remains in "hold" mode.

2: As above rinse and repeat

I dont see the point of leaving it in drive and pushing against the brakes so I feel popping it into neutral may even save the 7g box and "maybe" get more mileage out of it? I could be writing complete pants but thats how I justify it.

I agree, this is what I do and have done on previous automatics.
