As there's a great deal of debate as to how to drive an Automatic - get a manual.!

And as for America - how on earth do THEY cope with automatics.!?

Amazingly, I've driven automatics for the last zillion years - and I've managed

Just out of curiosity, how many drivers with 'Hold' at their disposal, activate it and then cover the accelerator with their right foot? I use 'Hold' at traffic lights and other hold ups, but cover the footbrake. I'm sorry to say it, but in these circumstances I miss the electronic handbrake brake of my previous Jag XJ - which I also left in drive at traffic lights etc. - but still covered the footbrake. The Mercedes 'handbrake' couldn't hold an automatic termite.

Don't cover the go pedal until the lights are about to go green (I look at traffic flows and other lights to detemine when mine are about to go), then I do. I check the rear view mirror when stopped a lot to check for getting rear ended and leave a big distance between me and the car in front so I can manouver to a position of safety if I see traffic approaching too quickly or have room to be shunted forward without being shunted into the next car in front

I'm new to this function and normally cover the accelerator. This is with the engine stopped. Just discovered Stop/Start only works 4 consecutive times before it has a rest (need to check handbook for timescale).
