To me this is one of the Things that make driving some models a unique experience that cannot be recreated at the wheel of a BMW Saab or Volvo or Lexus, Jaguar used to have it with the bonnett mascot But I get a great deal of Pleasure looking over the Bonnet of My W124 (1993 E-class estate )
seeing the Three Pointed Star and then thinking about the Heritage of the marque, how lucky I am to be driving a luxury car.Old it may be but to me My E- Class is Timeless Class and any older classy car is better than a new mondeo or vauxhall or Jap Box .
The Interior also does it for me In How many other affordable cars can I sit in cream leather with walnut trim in a timeless piece of engineering excellence
Thats simple and Cheap to service by yourself

would the experience be the same in those Benzes without the Raised Bonnet Star I wonder????

So what give s you pleasure from your benz

With mine it is its the ability to eat money, and it gets very hungry, I still love it though

Agree! I still smile as I look along the bonnet of the S-Class and see the 3-pointed Star - even more so now, thanks to Uncle Benz weaving his recent magic! :p

I took myself out today in my SL 320 (R129) and drove for 5hrs. I only went for a short run however, I had such a great relaxing time, I drove and drove till my belly told me I need to eat. I had a great late lunch, walked out to the care park and looked at the vehicle from different angles. BLISS!! The only thing better is 'GOOD S%X' or my 1986 Fender Strat with a very large amp. Sadly I'm beyond lycra and my 'cod piece' is too big??

The point being is that Merc's are special, they make you feel special! The forum makes you realise you are not alone. HOW GOOD ARE MB not knowing they have created a following beyond their control.

There is no better feeling than looking down the bonnet of a large mercedes at the three pointed star.

One of the biggest down sides to my ML was the fact you dont get the raised target on the bonnet and it has always annoyed and puzzled me as to why certain models dont at least have the option of the three pointed star to go along with or instead of the big merc badge in the grill that some models have.

Im sure there are owners of slk's clk's Ml's cls's etc out there who would love to look down the bonnet at the three pointed star but for some reason they cant and i am waiting on the "sporty model" reply but how can you equate that with an ML or the A-Class roller skate etc?

Dear Panzer, In my last post I stayed away from the points system? Do you know a good indi where I can get the star on the bonnet calibrated on my W202 C280?
PS. My C280 gives me the same feeling although targeting is easier!

Ah Freddie alas i am no longer in contact with some of my old comrades from the 101st leibstandarte-SS AH which is a pity as im sure some of the maintenance crews from Maybach, henschel@sohn or from the Ferdinand Porsche team could have helped you with calibrating your target.

Thanks, I shall go into retirement un-calibarated. I bought the R129 in late Dec 2008. Oh God, the pleasure I have had. I still use the C280 most of the time but every chance I get, out comes the SL. I am smitten with Mercs and yes, they are a drain but hey, I love them. Learning is a part of the pleasure.......

Just a wee picture of me and some of the boys enjoying looking down the bonnet at the gunsight in my six wheeled Grosser Mercedes 770G.
We were on a nice drive to vienna to celebrate Anschlauss but as ever AH has to stand up and bring attention to us all.
