Hi,
Travelling again this month, spending lots of time around the USA. Got an interesting rental car, a new Dodge Charger. Nice car, but what caught my attention is that it's a Merc E-Class underneath, same drive train, chassis and engine. Apparently the new Chrysler 300C sold in the UK is the same deal, different body shell.

I was impressed. The car was quiet, smooth Merc 5 speed gearshift and a vast cabin, bigger than my W210. So not the classic Charger muscle car, but a good drive. Low cost Merc's under a different brand name.. whatever next!

Also had a new VW Passat 1.9Tdi for a quick blast down to Bradford from Edinburgh and back. This was pretty good too, really impressed by the 51mpg brim to brim at 85mph on the M74/M6 and the A65 from the Lakes to Bradford. Almost 500miles round trip and the tank was still 1/3 full. Nice car.

Back to Asia next month then, so time to test drive some more Protons around Kuala Lumper again. Ho hum!

Bye!
John

You should have got one painted orange with a flag on the roof...that would have been cool.

I'm thinking of painting my 320CE like this.

Yes, I had a charger in Canada last year. Not quite a 210, more 'essence of 210' but very pleasant all the same. Huge inside although to be honest it didn't really go as agressively as it looked.

Yup! Typical American lump, tuned so that changing gear turns up the noise and little else :) The 300C shifts though, definitely tuned for get up and go in the UK.

What was the average speed? if over 10mph for the lakes section your MPG is pretty good.
