Hi all and thanks for all the info I have learned over the time. This is my first time to post.
My 01 E220 CDI emits a 'droning' noise at steady speeds around 65 kph/ 40 mph. Have just changed fuel and air filters.
Will appreciate any advice.
Many thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome,, is the car a 211, if it is, is the noise a humming or droning when pulling lightly at around 1600 - 2000RPM

Thanks for replying so quickly. The Chassis number
begins 'WDB210006.......' Does this mean it is a 210 model
It was first registered in April 2001, and has 157,000 Kms/
100,000 Miles on the clock.

Well being a 210 is fine.

Wheel bearings can fail, or maybe a tyre. if the noise is coming from the front then do check the wheel bearings by jacking the front and turning the wheels, a faulty bearing will feel slight rough as you turn the wheel, they should be silky smooth.

Another thing is the engine mounts, one may have collapsed throwing the prop shaft out of line.

Any good mechanic would know on driving the car
