I saw a Mercedes Comand W211 E-class High Head unit DVD 6061 being advertised on Ebay and wonder if it would replace the existing radio/CD player
that came with the car (W211 2005 E class) ie fit the existing connectors without any rewiring

It's being sold by a guy in Lithuaina, who advertises frequently - anyone bought from him before and what's been your experience?

Guess I'd need the disc, anything else needed? Also, would it play CDs ?
And what about a TV tuner? Are these dear?

Ok - first it's way too cheap. These things go for £2000 fitted after market. If it looks too good to be true ...... (buyer beware)

Secondly, with an audio20 in a 2005 211 you'd need to add an audio gateway which were around £400 the last time I looked, plus the appropriate wiring.

Yes it will play cds but really you also want the boot mounted dvd player and a cd changer if you don't already have one. Otherwise you can't navigate and listen to a cd at the same time.

The tv tuner is a waste of time - they are analogue and will be turned off shortly. Also I'm told reception is poor.

Finally you'd also need the dvd. These are £100 ish.

Sorry, but I would expect to lose £289 on this deal. If not, has he got 2?

Over to Alfie ....

I've just been looking and he appears pretty genuine... and he has 2 .....mmmm
Alfie - how much is an audio gateway and how hard are they to fit?
I assume they are rather warm but someone has to buy them.

Thanks Jberks. I think he might be genuine, but now I know that it needs the extra wiring and cost of the gateway and DVD, it's probably not not for me . I can buy a lots of atlas's or a tom-tom with the money saved

Audio gateways are about £400. Fitting it into the boot with all the wiring is a nightmare. Plus to navigate you need the navigation drive in the boot also. This all needs to be wired in to the head unit at the front of the car.

Steer well clear (we do) unless yo want to spend some serious cash. If you did want to proceed, I know a man who could do it for you.

With regard to buying from Eastern europe, I've had a few customers come to me with a comand asking me to fit it. Each one has obvious damage to the sides where it's been forced out of a car. I decline each time unless the owner can substantiate rightfull ownership. So be very careful when buying any 'navi' parts for German cars on eBay.

I've see these add's on Ebay, I have had a look at my workshop CD manuals and it is a completely different gateway and loom. MB would convert it and install for around £1500 but what they would say about fitting a supplied part I don't no, I can't see them going for it.

There's a company down south that do all this kind of Merc retro-fitting see link. http://www.braybrooks.co.uk/

To convert a D2B car to MOST will cost an awful lot of money. You'd be better off selling the car and buying a facelifted one instead.

Braybrooks are very good, however I dont think they have ever done a D2B to MOST conversion and they certainly wont be cheap!
